Week Three

This week on Friday I didn't have any class, so my roommate Lydia and I went to the zoo. It was really fun, and we got to see a lot of cool animals, including the elusive kiwi! They’re usually nocturnal, so when we went into the Kiwi House it was almost completely dark and lit like a photography darkroom. Even though it was just their silhouettes, it was really cool to see them wandering around foraging for food. Maybe I’ll get the chance to see one in its natural habitat when we go down to Stewart Island!

We also got awesome kiwi keychains and bags…we went a little kiwi crazy.

This week I also had an interview for the internship I’ll have while I’m here. Since I had already spoken with my supervisor previously it was more of a formal introduction than a screening process, but by the sounds of it I think I’ll really like it there! I’m interning at a showroom for various clothing, jewelry, and shoe designers, and I’ll be involved in the selection/loaning of pieces for photoshoots and events, as well as press tracking for their clients. My supervisor said that I’ll be meeting a lot of magazine editors, stylists, and even celebrities who come in! He also said that if I network with people who come in I might be able to pick up some other side projects if people need extra help. What’s nice about the New Zealand fashion industry is that big editors and even designers are never more than a few calls away, unlike in the States or Europe where these people can be almost untouchable. I’m sososo excited for this opportunity, and I start on Monday! :D
