Just kidding!

While packing for the South Island today I gave my camera one more shot...and it decided to work! :D So I'll write about Sydney now, before I forget everything that happened.

We flew into Sydney on the 9th, and got there in time to go catch the end of the Surry Hills Festival. There were two locations and we stumbled upon both of them; there were tons of little booths with food, clothes, jewelry and crafts - I wish I had had more time to poke around, but it was getting dark...and we had some celebrating to do for Kaylee's 21st!

After wandering around the city for a while we ended up at Opera Bar, which is right by the Sydney Opera House. It was amazing to see up close, and we spent a good portion of the night running around the place and marveling at being so close to it.

On Sunday we went to a burlesque show, which was...interesting. Not really what I had expected, but I guess that's what you get for basing expectations on a movie trailer. It was a pretty low-key night, the highlight being forcing Kaylee onstage to compete in a sing-off with the other people celebrating their birthdays.

The next couple days were pretty packed: delicious pancakes, walking across the Harbour Bridge, walking through the Botanic Gardens (bats everywhere!), checking out the Australian Art Museum and walking around Darling Harbour. We also got to explore the gorgeous Sydney University campus and do a beach cliff walk from Bronte to Bondi beaches, ending with a phenomenal burger at Moo Burger. On Tuesday nights the Australian Museum of Natural History opens up and becomes Jurassic Lounge, so we got to see the museum at night, plus get free drinks, watch live art/listen to live music, and get our faces painted! My camera started acting up in the middle of all of this excitement, so I'll have to post some of the other pictures later.

On our last full day we took a train to the Blue Mountains, where we got to go horseback riding :D It was such a nice way to see the area, and it had been way too long since I had last been on a horse - luckily this time I was prepared and didn't show up in running shorts and flip flops. The views were beautiful, and we saw wild kangaroos! Definitely the high point of the trip.

Like I said before, I wish I had planned more time in Australia - there's so much to explore and we barely got to see Sydney in 6 days. Just another excuse to come back to this side of the world again :)

Leaving for the South Island in two and a half hours!! The break has only just begun...
